Forest Cabin - VRay L.2

Forest Cabin – Vray Level 2

Forest Cabin VRay L.2 for Rhino is a 2 days rendering course of an architectural exterior scene. This 16-hour course is designed for everyone who is interested in gaining advance visualization and post-production skills, resulting in a professional level striking image. During the workshop you will follow a linear process from understanding image composition and colour theory, to lighting your scene with HDRI maps and using V-ray proxy objects. Workshop will conclude with advance post-production techniques and layers compositing in Photoshop. Information will flow in an accelerated pace.

Structure

In this training course (VRay L.2) you will learn to create photorealistic exterior architectural visualizations, using the V-ray for Rhino render engine. This fast moving class covers most of V-ray’s functionality, regarding exterior scene setup. You will systematically move through, the Rhino/V-ray interface, understand lighting set-up with V-ray, load and create V-ray proxies, get familiar with image quality parameters, thus acquiring concrete knowledge for coping with any exterior visualization, regardless complexity of the scene. The duration of the course is 16 hours. The course is intensive and spans 2 consecutive days (10:00 to 18:00)

In this class, you will systematically move through the user interface, V-ray physical camera settings, the concepts of global and indirect illumination, image sampling algorithms, frame buffer channels, material creation and raw image results.

Expected Outcomes

After this course (VRay L.2) the student is expected to be able to:

  • Move comfortably around the V-ray for Rhino menus.
  • Understand HDRI-based lighting.
  • Understand sampling quality concepts and efficiently alternate between different setups.
  • Produce raw image files and utilize VFB channels.
  • Bring “to life” your images through basic post-production steps in Photoshop.

Curriculum

At decode™ we believe effective training needs a real-life project setting instead of generic exercises. All V-ray Level 2 material will be taught by getting the Forest Cabin exterior scene ready for final render. In this way each student will be guided through the experience of completing a challenging and interesting visualization project, building up knowledge and confidence for dealing with various scene setups, just like a professional would. Through the Forest Cabin rendering steps the following concepts will be covered:

  • Get acquainted with the Rhino viewports.
  • Navigate around model space.
  • Rhino layering system for rendering purposes.
  • V-ray camera set-up.
  • Global Illumination(GI) lighting.
  • Lighting the scene with V-ray lights/HDRI based lighting/IES lights.
  • Material creation-material layers.
  • Image sampling techniques- DMC Sampler
  • Indirect illumination-Primary/Secondary bounces calculation algorithms
  • V-ray frame buffer(VFB) channels
  • Photoshop layers composition and post production techniques.

Target Audience

This course is for architects, interior and industrial designers and of course design enthusiasts  who want to efficiently learn the concepts and features of the V-ray for Rhino render engine at an accelerated pace in an instructor-led environment.

Pre-requisites

Requires basic V-ray skills and desire to produce stunning visuals. Previous experience with Rhinoceros interface helpful but not required. If trainees have attempted to work through tutorials on either evaluation, student or commercial version of V-ray for Rhino, this will help.)
